About

Leadership & Staff

A small, experienced team runs the Society's day-to-day work, supporting members, certification, the journal, and education.

Executive staff

The professional staff who keep ASHDS programs running.

Elena Vasquez, MPA, CAE

Executive Director

Elena has led ASHDS since 2019, growing membership by more than 60 percent and launching the Society's first international chapters. She came from a decade of association management in scientific societies and believes member organizations succeed by being genuinely useful, not merely visible.

Dr. Samuel Adeyemi, PhD

Chief Science Officer

Samuel oversees the Society's research agenda, scientific publications, and the annual State of Health Data Science report. A former academic biostatistician, he is the person who makes sure the Society's claims are ones the evidence can support.

Karen Whitfield, MS, CHDS

Director of Certification

Karen runs the CAHDS, CHDS, and FHDS credentialing programs and chairs the exam development committee. She has spent her career thinking about how to measure competence fairly, and treats every exam question as something a real candidate's career depends on.

Dr. Nadia Petrova, MD, PhD

Editor in Chief, Journal of Health Data Science

Nadia has edited JHDS since 2022 and has guided the journal to its first impact factor and a doubling of annual submissions. She is a physician-scientist who reviews every accepted manuscript herself and insists that a paper a clinician cannot understand has not finished its job.

Anthony Reyes, MBA

Director of Membership

Anthony leads member recruitment, retention, and the Society's special interest groups and student chapters. He is the first call for any member with a problem and the reason the renewal rate sits above 90 percent.

Dr. Lillian Chukwu, EdD

Director of Education

Lillian designs the Society's continuing education, webinars, and Annual Symposium program. A former clinical educator, she builds learning that working professionals can actually fit into a real week.
